These shoes are designed to offer the speed horse a very light, durable shoe while significantly reducing breakover. Dr. Redden uses this shoe to treat the ill effects of the long toe, underrun heel speed horse. Significantly reducing breakover aids recovery of the chronic, crushed heel syndrome by enhancing forward capsule loading during the full stance phase of the stride.
Consequently the cumulative effects of reducing excessive load and trauma to the compromised heel, greatly enhances the healing environment of the heel, buttress, digital cushion and related structures. This shoe is an excellent choice for speed horses with quarter cracks, bruises, underrun heels, corns and inflammation associated with the digital cushion and navicular bone.
The race shoe is offered in two styles which allows you to choose where the breakover is positioned. The picture below is the Dan Race with lower breakover as compared to the original Race pictured above.
